Why our Masks are better & safer

Why our Masks are better & safer

The Safe+Face mask is a new and unique product. Learn more here why our masks and gaiters are better and safer than others.

To identify where our mask fits in the “mask” market, we first define existing mask categories. To date, the FDA and CDC have only defined 2 types of masks – Surgical masks and Respirators:

Disposable Surgical masks

A disposable, one-time use, surgical mask is a loose-fitting, disposable device. It creates a physical barrier between your face and potential contaminants in the immediate environment. Wearing a surgical mask can help block large-particle droplets that may contain microbes from reaching your mouth and nose. As a result, surgical masks may also help reduce exposure of your respiratory droplets to others.

Note- a surgical mask doesn’t filter small particles in the air that may be transmitted by coughs or sneezes. Moreover, surgical masks do not provide complete protection from microbes because of the loose fit between your face and mask. Furthermore, surgical masks are not intended to be used more than once, according to FDA regulations.

Disposable Respirator Masks (N95)

A disposable, one-time use, N95 respirator is a respiratory protective device. It’s designed to achieve a very close facial fit and efficient filtration of airborne particles. The ‘N95’ designation means that when properly fitted, the respirator blocks at least 95% of very small test particles.

To work correctly, an N95 respirator requires a proper fit to your face (often a very tight, constricting, uncomfortable fit). Please note, children or people with facial hair shouldn’t wear N95 respirators since they will not provide full protection. The FDA defines respirators as disposable, one-time use devices. And, only used once per patient due to contamination- not once per day).

Safe+Face Masks

Safe+Face masks are a “hybrid” that fit neither definition, and lie somewhere between a surgical mask and a N95 respirator. First, our face masks are superior to hospital/surgical masks in almost every technical specification. Second, our mask provides you a better degree of protection by form-fitting to your face and it reduces air gaps. Third, the masks provide “all-day” comfort and are reusable, not a one-time use mask.

The Safe+Face mask provides almost the same level of protection as a “properly fitted” N95 rated mask. However, it doesn’t require a tight fit to be effective, and is more comfortable and suited for long periods of wear. We know a “properly fitted” N95 mask is not available to the vast majority of consumers. A properly fit N95 mask is only effective as long as you don’t move or re-adjust it. It’s unreasonable to expect a person to wear N95 masks for any length of time without re-adjusting them and compromising their effectiveness. Furthermore, they are not very comfortable and difficult to talk through. Try speaking to someone on a cell phone with your N95 mask… NOT!

The Safe+Face mask is better and safer than other masks. First, our face masks are made from a high performance jersey knit fabric with 5,088 stitches per inch (4x competitive products). Second, the fabric is hypo-allergenic and can be used in close contact with the body. Third, our masks are treated with AEGIS® Microbe Shield®; years of R&D and testing verify the safety and performance of this technology.
